Bioluminescence season is here

A kayak on dark water at night, seen from above

For about three months a year, tiny plankton in the lagoon light up whenever the water moves. Dip a paddle and a trail of blue sparks follows the blade. Trail your hand over the side and your fingers glow.

When to go

The glow is brightest on dark nights, so we schedule the night paddle around the new moon. Check the calendar on the booking form: departures at 7:30 pm are the night trips.

What to bring

A warm layer for the paddle home, and patience for your eyes to adjust. Phones rarely capture the glow, so this is one trip to simply enjoy.
